2026 Interior Design Trends
I am writing this 2026 interior design trend prediction blog post based on what I have seen in furniture shows and industry communications. It is always interesting to me to see how trends catch on. Historically interiors follow fashion trends. They also start across the pond then slowly make their way to the west. This is especially obvious with the grandma-chic or grandmillenial trend, which i'll get into later. If you enjoy decorating your house based on current trends, or if you are thinking about reselling, this post may be for you. Or if you are curious and want to know if your predictions are right, read on!
Our Approach To Trend vs. Timeless
Let's talk about interior design trends. I'll preface by saying, DO NOT DESIGN YOUR HOME BASED ON CURRENT TRENDS. If you love something, who cares who else likes it? It is your home, you live there, not the other person. However, at JLL Interiors we tend to stick to timeless design and sprinkle in trends in the decor. Timeless design never goes out of style. It waxes and wanes in popularity but never truly goes out of style.
Timeless design is comprised of:
quality materials (tile, millwork, etc.)
real metals like polished nickel, raw or laquered brass, and iron
100% textiles (wool, linen, silk, cotton)
Solid wood

Colors
As a blanket statement, I see 2026 interior design trends being full of muted earth tones, much like the Grand Rug Collection released by Nordic Knots. We will see darker earth tones like burgundy, plums, brown, and forrest greens. We will move from stark whites and grays to warmer off whites, beiges, and golds. If anyone thinks of the tuscan trend of the 00s, do not be afraid. I do not see grapevine wallpaper coming back in style. We will also see more color drenching in rooms. Color drenching is when you paint all walls, ceiling, and trim one color. Color trends also move into tile trends. We will see bolder and moodier colors in tile.
Trend vs. Timeless
How do you incorporate trending colors?
Timeless:
If you have beefy trim, highlight it don't hide it. Keep it white or off white and consider painting the walls a moody or contrasting color
color drench when wanting to trick the eye to make a room seen bigger or to create interest in a room without any architectural details (see this post on how we color drenched this small bathroom)
Trendy:
When in doubt, just paint the walls! If a color is "trending" and you love it, just paint it, Paint is the easiest thing to change if you get bored of it
Bold colors in tile. I personally love bold color in tile and I won't stop doing it because it is a trend! This is where it comes down to the type of material the tile is comprosed of. Beautiful and colorful zellige tile originated in Morocco in the 10th century and is still in use today.
Furniture
2026 will be the return of wood furniture, mixing wood tones in one space, and more vintage furniture! With the tarrifs in place last year we saw an extreme increase in furniture leaving many designers looking in alternative places for furnishings. Estate sales and auctions have been around for forever but I believe that the amount of furnishings sourced from second-hand places will rise in 2026.
I am excited for more wood tones to be incorporated in the design of rooms, particularly darker browns. We will also see more spaces with varying wood tones making rooms feel more collected rather than a furniture set purchased at one showroom.
Trend vs. Timeless
Timeless:
mix up your wood tones, not everything has to be one shade of wood. Compliment a dark table with lighter wood chairs!
Mix vintage vintage furniture in a space with more modern pieces
Trendy:
all furniture from one showroom or one style (i.e. all modern or all glam)
cheap pieces of furniture. Trendy pieces from big box stores tend to have less than quality materials. You get what you pay for most often!
Textiles
2026 will be the year of mixing patterns on patterns. Some call this the "grandma-chic" or "grandmillenial" style. Designers in England have been doing this for ages and I am excited to see this come to America. The key is to not over-do it. There is a thing as too much pattern. This is when hiring a designer is helpful. There is an eye for mixing pattern scales and I am sad to say there is not one formula this is correct.
Trend vs. Timeless
Timeless:
patterned lampshades
throw pillows in various fabrics
mixing solids with patterns
quality fabrics like 100% linen, cotton, or wool
Trendy:
more than 7 patterns in one room (generally)
all one pattern (i.e. floral everything)
artificial textiles
Our Recommendation
Start with timeless architecture and finishes and then layer in the fun with soft furnishings. The way I think of it is that if you were to flip a house over, everything that wouldn't fall out should be timeless, the things that fall out (like pillows, etc.) can be more trendy and fun. The magic happens with you mix the trends with the timeless- if you are ready to upgrade your home into a space that is more personalized, fun, and timeless let's chat!
